This is a story that life always rewards sensitivity to the needs of others and readiness to offer selfless help.

A boy named Szymek lives in a mining town. His dad works in a nearby mine while his mother looks after the house. On his 10th birthday, mother gives Szymek a gingerbread heart. One day, the boy goes to fetch clay to fix the floor at home. While working, he meets an Old Man who is looking for his pipe at the clay pit. Szymek joined the search, and when it starts pouring, he helps the Old Man pull his cart out of mud. Unfortunately, on his way back home, the boy realizes that he has lost his mother's gift. Will he find it?
